Mad Catz, a company known primarily for selling PC and console hardware accessories, will team up with developer Harmonix to co-publish and co-distribute the upcoming music rhythm game Rock Band 4 for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles.
Harmonix announced in March its plans to relaunch the Rock Band franchise for a release in late 2015. Rock Band 4 will be the first game in the series in five years. While all of the previous games were co-published by Electronic Arts and MTV Games, Mad Catz did step in to take over the publishing duties of the last game in the franchise, Rock Band 3, in 2011, after it was first released by EA and MTV in 2010.
Mad Catz adds:
"In addition to co-publishing the game, Mad Catz is developing a new generation of Rock Band 4 wireless music game controllers that will give players the chance to rock as the biggest guitarists, bassists, drummers and singers of all time."
Activision will relaunch its own Guitar Hero franchise this fall for the first time in five years with Guitar Hero Live for the Xbox One and Xbox 360, among other platforms.
