Microsoft's main Minecraft team at Mojang had been working for some time with developer Oxeye Game Studio on a side-scrolling action platformer game called Cobalt. The game was set for release sometime in October for the PC, Xbox One and Xbox 360, but now Mojang and Oxeye have revealed Cobalt has been delayed until sometime in February 2016.
Mojang has posted up a quick, and very funny, Cobalt gameplay video that explains why they and Oxeye have delayed the release of the game, but they also revealed the reasons in more detail on their blog:
"We've been working on Cobalt for a long time and, though the game is feature complete, our current build is buggier than we're comfortable with. We want every part of Cobalt – the campaign, challenges, and local and online multiplayer to live up to your expectations, no matter which platform you play it on. That's going to require a bit more development time.
"In honesty, we don't need four months to fix the outstanding issues, but releasing a game on console is an especially complicated business. There are release windows, and certification things, and all kinds of boxes that need to be ticked before games can be released into the wild."
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the game, here's a quick description of Cobalt:
"Dominate in local or online multiplayer campaigns, or co-op your way through Cobalt's story game mode as a cyborg sent to uncover the mysterious disappearance of a human colony on an alien planet. With over 30 multiplayer maps, six different gameplay modes, three dozen types of weapons and unique gameplay elements such as auto-slow-motion and rolling, Cobalt offers endless discovery and entertainment. Oh, and ridable giant space hamsters.""
