Sales of the long-awaited consumer version of the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset have finally started. Oculus launched pre-orders for the headset as scheduled, and the price for being one of the first to get it is $599.
Shipments of the headset are scheduled to begin sometime in March 2016. As a reminder, the Oculus Rift will be bundled with an Xbox One controller. It will also include a free copy of the VR game Lucky's Tale, and all pre-orders will also be bundled with the space shooter EVE: Valkyrie.
In related news, Oculus founder Palmer Luckey revealed on Twitter that pre-orders for the Rift will also "reserve your spot for Touch preorders". The Oculus Touch controllers, which the company is currently developing, will be released sometime in the second half of 2016. Also, anyone who had backed the original Oculus Rift development kit on Kickstarter will get a free "Kickstarter Edition" of the Oculus Rift consumer headset.
