Konami has announced Metal Gear Survive, the next game in the publisher's long-running Metal Gear action game series. Due for release in 2017 for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, it takes place in an alternate universe compared to previous games in the franchise.

IGN has the first info on the game, which will be a four-player co-op title:

Set directly after the events of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, Survive sees the members of Militaires Sans Frontières not killed in that game's finale transported through wormholes into an alternate universe, where they're forced to battle a force of crystalline zombies and, it seems, at least one Metal Gear itself.

Metal Gear Survive will use the same Fox Engine for its graphics that was previously used for Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. It will also be the first game in the franchise to be released since the departure of Metal Gear's creator Hideo Kojima from Konami.
