Microsoft has added the Showtime Anytime app to its growing library of apps for the Xbox 360 game console, with plans to bring it to the Xbox One sometime later in 2014.
This is the first time that the premium cable TV app has been released for any game console. Paid subscribers to the cable channel in the U.S. will be able to access all of the movies that are currently showing on the network, along with current and past episodes and seasons of their many original TV shows, such as Ray Donovan. Homeland, Californication, Nurse Jackie, Penny Dreadful and more. The app also offers live broadcasts of Showtime's East and West coast feeds.
Microsoft currently has 175 apps for its Xbox family of consoles, although the Xbox One's library is still well behind that of the nearly nine year old Xbox 360. Microsoft says that it will increase the number of Xbox app to over 225 by the end of 2014.
