Every weekend, Windows Central streams an Xbox One or Steam game on Twitch for 1-2 hours and gives out free games to the cool people who join us during the stream. It's like a live podcast, only you also get to watch a game while chatting with our awesome readers and viewers!
Tonight we played Nightmares from the Deep 2: The Siren's Call, a hidden object puzzle adventure game from Artifex Mundi. Players will solve the mystery of a village of fish people while solving lots of fun puzzles. Read on for quick impressions, contest winners, and the full video replay.
Nightmares from the Deep 2: The Siren's Call
The museum director and heroine from the first Nigthmares from the Deep battled with a ghostly pirate and came out on top. Now she finds herself wrapped up in a brand new adventure involving a village of fish people and mermaids. One member of the village seeks the protagonist's help in curing their affliction, while other denizens have more sinister intentions. Behind it all, a ghastly figure pulls the strings.
Like most Artifex Mundi titles, The Siren's Call is a hidden object puzzle adventure game. Players will navigate a variety of well-illustrated environments, interacting with various objects to solve puzzles and move the story along. Hopefully, the console controls will handle such tasks well.
At various intervals throughout the game, players will engage in hidden objects puzzles as well. You know how these work – you'll have to find all of the objects from a list amidst a crowded scene. The Nightmares from the Deep games dole their hidden object scenes out less frequently than some games in the genre, probably due to their greater focus on narrative.
Players who don't care for hidden objects should be pleased to know that The Siren's Call offers Mahjong Solitaire as an alternative to the hidden object sequences.
Assault Suit Leynos
Assault Suit Leynos is a full remake of the classic Sega Genesis action-platformer Target: Earth for for Steam and PlayStation 4.
Official synopsis:
"As Earth reels from the impact of the fourth world war and dwindling resources, an uneasy truce between nations sees mankind reach for the stars. Colonies are settled, resources are mined and the future starts looking a little brighter. But just as peace finally seems possible, an unknown enemy emerges from the deepest region of space to threaten the very existence of humanity. Only one thing can stop them: deploy the Assault Suit Squadron!"
With all-new HD visuals, Japanese voice-acting, multiple game modes and modifiers, and lots of unlockables, Assault Suit Leynos is an impressive remake of the original 16-bit game. Watch us play it, and then grab it on Steam or PlayStation 4 for $19.99.
