Originally set to launch next week, the launch of the Xbox One in China has been pushed back to the end of the year. Microsoft has stated that customers who have pre-ordered the console in the country will be among the first to receive it once it launches in the country, along with "an added bonus."
"Despite strong and steady progress, we are going to need more a bit more time to deliver the best experiences possible for our fans in China. Working with our partner, BesTV, we look forward to launching in China by the end of this year."
The launch event scheduled for September 22 is not being scrubbed, however, as Microsoft has mentioned that "attendees will be able to enjoy gameplay, great music and entertainment." The software maker is also giving away 100 consoles during the event, which will be available to the winners once the Xbox One makes its debut in the country.
While Microsoft isn't giving out the exact number of pre-orders for the console in China, Yusuf Mehdi has announced that they were "beyond our expectations." For local content, Microsoft is partnering with BesTV, and is also working with 25 developers on 70 games that will be available for Xbox One users in the country. On the distribution side of things, Microsoft has mentioned that it was in talks with over 4,000 retailers from over 37 cities in China.
