Microsoft is sticking with its plans to raise the price of its Xbox One console back up to at least $399 after Saturday, January 3, after offering a $50 price cut on all Xbox One consoles and bundles, cutting its price down to $349 without the Kinect controller. The promo pricing began on November 2. and some retailers sold the console for as low as $329 during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday time period.
In today's reminder of the end of the promo price period, Microsoft pointed out that several retailers still have the Xbox One with the Assassin's Creed bundle (featuring both Assassin's Creed Unity and Assassins Creed IV Black Flag) for not just $50 off but with some special freebies as well. Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop and Target are each offering a $50 gift card for their respective stores with the purchase of the Xbox One, while Toys 'R Us has a free Xbox One controller for the same purchase. Meijer will give its customers another free Xbox One game of their choice with the purchase of the console. NewEgg may have the best value; it has both a $20 gift card and a free 12-month Xbox Live Gold subscription, worth $59.99, with the purchase of an Xbox One through Saturday.
After January 3 is over, however, the price of the Xbox One goes back up to $399 without the Kinect add-on or $499 with the sensor. Hopefully Microsoft will drop the asking price permanently during 2015.
